New Rules

Essence

Essence acts as Fate Points that only work to power Charm Aspects. They are refreshed at the start of every scene. Any time a character uses Essence instead of Fate Points, the character's anima banner can be seen.

Charm Aspects

Charm aspects act like normal aspects, with a few differences. They cannot be compelled by the GM, and thus do not normally give the character fate points. They represent supernatural abilities that the character may have. A charm aspect is composed of a fairly broad ability to invoke for a bonus, and a more narrow ability that can be invoked for an effect, usually with a trigger condition. Charm aspects require the expenditure of essence or fate points to be used. Some rare charms may require the expenditure of multiple essence or fate points. Some example Charm Aspects include:

Acccuracy Without Distance
Invoke for bonus: When attacking with a bow or other ranged weapon.
Invoke for effect: When shooting such a weapon, you automatically hit the target. The target takes a one-stress hit. If not attacking an opponent, you hit the target perfectly, such as knocking a lever with an arrow.

Adamant Skin Technique
Invoke for bonus: When defending against a physical attack or an attack that targets your health.
Invoke for effect: When an attack as outlined above is going to take you out or give automatic consequences (such as explosives), you negate that attack entirely if the attack involves outright damage. For example, it won't defend against a poisonous or disease attack that attacks the body from within.

Cascade of Cutting Terror
Invoke for bonus: When attacking with a thrown weapon.
Invoke for effect: When throwing a weapon, the weapon automaticallhy hits. The target takes a one-stress hit. If used against minions, roll an attack as normal. The number of minions taken out by this attack is doubled.

Craftsman Need No Tools
Invoke for bonus: When crafting something
Invoke for effect: When crafting something without tools, you have no penalties no matter how esoteric the required tools are; all you need are the raw materials. Shift the time taken to accomplish the task two steps up the Time Increments table (Spirit of the Century, page 227).

Elusive Dream Defense
Invoke for bonus: When defending against a social attack or an action that targets your composure.
Invoke for effect: When an action as defined above is going to take you out or give automatic consequences, you negate that attack entirely.

Essence-Gathering Temper
Invoke for bonus: When defending against an essence-based attack, be it physical or social.
Invoke for effect: When an essence-based attack hits you, you may increase its damage by 1 stress or more. For each point of extra stress, you gain 1 Essence that must be used on your next turn.

Glorious Solar Plate
Invoke for bonus: When defending against a physical attack or an attack that targets your health
Invoke for effect: To summon golden armor. This armor gives two bonus dice to defenses. Minions cannot hurt the Solar unless they are attached and giving a bonus to another character.

Heavenly Guardian Defense
Invoke for bonus: When defending with a melee weapon against a physical attack or an attack that targets your health.
Invoke for effect: When an attack as outlined above is going to take you out or give automatic consequences (such as explosives), you negate that attack entirely.

Immaculate Golden Bow
Invoke for bonus: When attacking with your Immaculate Golden Bow.
Invoke for effect: To create an Immaculate Golden Bow. This is a weapon that never runs out of ammunition and gives two bonus dice to attacks. Opponents from outside Creation, such as demons and Fair Folk take an extra point of stress.

Know the Soul's Price
Invoke for bonus: When attempting to read someone
Invoke for effect: Roll an Investigate check. Any roll equal to or greater than a minion's Resolve is a success. Verses a non-minion, you must Take Out that character, and may require multiple uses of this Aspect. In either case, you know what must be offered to the character in order to make it your loyal servant. This is not necessarily a physical object, especially when dealing with truly loyal or honorable characters.

Memory-Reweaving Technique
Invoke for bonus: In order to convince someone of a lie.
Invoke for effect: In order to rewrite a minion's memory to implant a false memory. If the target is not a minion, the Solar must gain a Taken Out result. This may require multiple uses of this Aspect.

Phantom Conjuring Performance
Invoke for bonus: When making a performance to entertain.
Invoke for effect: In order to create large-scale illusions. These illusions do not seem entirely real, but can fool others if they fail a Resolve check verses a Good difficulty.

Ready in Eight Directions Stance
Invoke for bonus: When defending with a melee weapon against an attack.
Invoke for effect: In order to gain a free attack verses an opponent who just missed you.

Sometimes Horses Fly Technique
Invoke for bonus: Performing maneuvers while flying a mount.
Invoke for effect: To enable your mount to fly for the scene.

Sun King's Radiance
Invoke for bonus: When attempting to lead followers.
Invoke for effect: When an effect attempts to dishearten followers or companions. That effect fails.

Wyld-Shaping Technique
Invoke for bonus: When attempting to manipulate the Wyld in some way
Invoke for effect: To create something from pure Wyld energy. The character must spend a number of Essence and Fate Points equal to the Resources required to purchase the object or Demesne. One such point can be spent per hour. This can also create minions. Creating esoteric objects like artifacts requires Occult rolls.
